Should You Move Into A Furnished Apartment?

When it comes to housing choices, deciding whether to live in an unfurnished or furnished apartment is one of the top considerations. For many renters, living in a furnished apartment has its advantages. However, it does have its disadvantages. If you are considering a furnished apartment, here are some benefits and disadvantages to weigh.

Why Should You Rent a Furnished Apartment?

One of the main advantages to moving into a furnished apartment is that your moving expenses significantly decrease. Instead of paying for movers, you can more than likely fit all of your needs inside of your car. If you are moving to a different state, those savings are even more.

A furnished apartment could also be an opportunity to make some money. Since you will not need your current furnishings, you can hold a garage sale or post your things online. Items that you cannot sell can be donated or given to friends and family.

Even though the furniture in the apartment is not yours, you can still decorate the space so that it feels like your home. There are many inexpensive changes you can make through the apartment, including hanging family pictures, that can make the place feel more homey.

What Are the Drawbacks?

Even though there are some great advantages to living in a furnished apartment, there are a couple of drawbacks to consider. One of those is the monthly cost of rent. Depending on the location and the value the landlord has placed on the furnishings in the apartment, you might have to pay far more than if you moved into an unfurnished apartment.

However, many landlords are willing to work out discounts or special rates to tenants in exchange for agreeing to longer lease terms. The landlord has a chance to retain a steady tenant and you can get a lower rate.

Another possible drawback is that you are responsible for the condition of the furniture. Any damage to the furniture could result in a deduction from your deposit. However, if you treat the furniture with care and ensure that all visitors do the same, you should not have to worry about this occurrence.

If you are still undecided on whether or not moving into a furnished apartment is right for you, take the time to tour a few apartments. While touring, you can get a feel for the space and decide if it is the right place for you.

About Me

Traveling To See the World

When I turned sixteen, people started asking me what I wanted to do after high school. Without hesitation, I used to tell people that I wanted to see the world. I was really excited about getting out there, broadening my horizons, and talking with people from other parts of the world. It took a lot of work, but I was able to save up enough money to start traveling the very next summer after I graduated. This website is all about traveling and tourism, and how seeing the world can improve your life each and every single day. I know it made a big difference in mine.
